1778
I speculate that 1778 was the best year Mozart ever had in his life despite the fact that he officially broke up with Aloysia and his mother died that year - Paris was probably good for mood but not for health.
It was such a typical irony that today’s Austrians take so much pride in Mozart although in history Mozart hated Salzburg to death and suffered both emotionally and financially from the Wien audiences’ bad taste.
For me, Mozart feels a lot more Italian than German. And I speculate he probably felt more Italian than German in his heart.
I even speculate that the only reason he could not permanently stay in Italy where he got paid 3 times more than in Austria was simply that both women from the Weber family he was in love with could not fit in non-German speaking countries, although Mozart himself was more than fluent in Italian.
